A Birthday Gift

July 22, 2012

…marks the 20th birthday of one of my mates in the university. Since this also marks the year that she will be leaving teenhood and takes a step closer to adulthood, I tried to create something that will remind her of the teenage memories she had, and the bright and wonderful future she will have.

So here is what I made for her:

Blue is her favorite color, and she has this addiction to France (and baking) so I decided to match a French quote for it. You’d also notice that the girl looks so young, the irony of the gift for a 20 year old. I still tried to maintain the “elegance” though.

I was quite nervous that the print outcome will be totally different from the digital ones, especially the colors. I made a mistake (though quite uncontrollable, can’t blame the print shop) because the printer turned the colors into darker hues. Anyhow it turned out well. 🙂

I could safely say that my mate was chuffed with it, although I was anxious that she might be expecting more from me after flipping through this certain Pixiv art book before opening my gift!

Above is the packaging design I made to match the gift. Doodled recycled paper isn’t that bad as a gift wrapper, is it?
